As part of the Saison France-Br\u00e9sil 2025, developed by the Institut Guimar\u00e3es Rosa and the Institut Fran\u00e7ais, with the support of the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs of both countries, La Fab. – Galerie du Jour (Paris) and Solar dos Abacaxis (Rio de Janeiro) have joined forces to organize a cross-residency project for French and Brazilian artists.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
<\/p>\n\n\n Dear artists, <\/p>\n\n\n\n We are delighted to announce the open call for O<\/strong>ficina Solar 2025<\/strong>, the third edition <\/strong>of the artistic residency program at Solar dos Abacaxis <\/strong>in Rio de Janeiro. This year\u2019s edition is partly organized in collaboration with La Fab. (Paris) <\/strong>and takes place within the official program of the Saison France-Br\u00e9sil 2025<\/strong>, developed by the Instituto Guimar\u00e3es Rosa and the Institut Fran\u00e7ais, with support from the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs of both countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As part of this international cultural exchange, two artists based in France <\/strong>will be selected to join Brazil-based artists for a three-month residency <\/strong>at Solar dos Abacaxis, from August to November 2025<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Solar dos Abacaxis is a space dedicated to experimental and inclusive practices in art and education. With this special edition of Oficina Solar in the year Solar celebrates its 10th anniversary, our team is excited to welcome artists to our creative home in the heart of Rio de Janeiro for a period of immersion, creation and collective engagement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n About the Residency <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This edition of O<\/strong>ficina Solar <\/strong>will host: <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf 4 artists residing in the city of Rio de Janeiro <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf 2 artists from other parts of the state of Rio or from other regions of Brazil <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf 2 artists based in France<\/strong>, selected via this special international open call in partnership with La Fab. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We are looking for artists <\/strong>without commercial gallery representation in Brazil, working in any field of contemporary visual or interdisciplinary artistic practices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n During the year of 2025 when Solar dos Abacaxis celebrates its 10th anniversary, our program is dedicated to investigating questions related to Freedom<\/strong>, a central theme in the formation of our institutional procedures aimed at experimentation in art and education. Our investigative axis will focus on one of the most important topics of our time, highlighting the responsibility and power of art in moments of political crisis, social turmoil, and risks for democracy, intertwining libertarian actions in the gathering of diversity to celebrate and resist through life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We’re looking forward to receiving applications from artists who address any of the many aspects of freedom in their practices, whether formal, collaborative, conceptual, or theoretical. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the course of the residency, the programme will provide: <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf An individual studio space within a shared 300m\u00b2 atelier <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf A monthly stipend of R$ 2,000 <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Travel and accommodation support <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Ongoing curatorial and production support from the Solar team and guest curators <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Opportunities to develop and share work through public programming <\/p>\n\n\n\n The residency will culminate in a collective show of Open Studios <\/strong>in October\u2013November, showcasing the artistic processes and works developed over the three-month period. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Counterpart \u2013 Public Engagement <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to being present and active throughout the residency, each artist will be requested to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Lead two public workshops<\/strong>, preferably for children or young people, either at Solar or in collaboration with partner institutions <\/p>\n\n\n\n Solar is completely open to the artists to propose, if desired, other free public activities <\/strong>\u2014 workshops, talks, performances, or open processes \u2014 that engage our community and contribute to our mission of democratizing access to culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n These public engagements are central to the spirit of O<\/strong>ficina Solar<\/strong>, which aims to foster collective learning, exchange, and visibility for independent artistic practices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Who Can Apply <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n We warmly encourage applications from independent and emerging artists<\/strong>, especially those from underrepresented communities<\/strong>. All types of practices and research formats will be equally considered, as long as they are suitable for the context and duration of the residency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Applicants must: <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Be based in France <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Present a valid passport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Be available from August to November 2025 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Demonstrate a working level of English or Portuguese (minimum B1) <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u25cf Be open to sharing their work and process with local communities <\/p>\n\n\n\n The selection of the two artists based in France will be carried out jointly by the teams of Solar dos Abacaxis <\/strong>and La Fab. \u2013 Galerie du Jour. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria: <\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. Artistic quality and originality <\/strong>of the portfolio and proposal <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Relevance of the project <\/strong>to the themes and spirit of the Saison France-Br\u00e9sil 2025 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Relevance of the project <\/strong>to the theme of Solar dos Abacaxis 2025 program <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. Feasibility <\/strong>of the project within the scope of the residency and final exhibition <\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. Alignment with the values and objectives <\/strong>of Solar dos Abacaxis and La Fab. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 6.
