He owns a monumental record collection and has written nearly two dozen books on music. Above all, he put rap on TV and in newsstands at a time when most French media viewed it as an abject inner-city sub-culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mocked or even despised by some for his perennial shirt-and-suit look, Olivier Cachin combines style, discipline and enthusiasm. He has edited <em>L&#8217;Affiche <\/em>magazine since 1988, and created the TV show <em>Rapline <\/em>in 1990, in which he shot and aired the first features on French rap pioneers Supr\u00eame NTM, IAM, Minist\u00e8re A.M.E.R., and MC Solaar. Those were the days when you had to wait till midnight on Friday to hope to catch rap music on TV in France! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still not bored, nor embittered, in 2021, this fountain of musical knowledge and anecdotes regales us with his history of hip-hop and media, and his analysis of the evolution of French rap, now that it has gone from angry underground to commercial mainstream in a generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>David Commeillas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Producer, director, journalist, art director, David Commeillas lets his heart guide him through the world of music. He was deputy editor of <em>Vibrations <\/em>monthly magazine and and has contributed articles and reports to <em>Lib<\/em><em>\u00e9ration, Le Monde Diplomatique, <\/em>France Inter, France Culture and Radio Nova for over twenty years. His credits also include TV documentaries, such as <em>Kadans Kreyol <\/em>(2017), about French Caribbean music of the 1970s and 80s, and <em>Arte Rock Kingston <\/em>(2013), a deep-dive into the concerts and clubs of the Jamaican capital for ARTE.
