What place do queer people have in sport? Through a series of 24 portraits, André Niemeyer pays tribute to athletes who have come out of the closet, between physical power and emotional vulnerability.
About the artist : A native of Rio de Janeiro, born in 1969, based between Lisbon and Paris, multidisciplinary artist André Niemeyer studied industrial design at the Faculdade da Cidade, fashion design at Senai-Cetiqt and painting at the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro. He lived between London, Paris and New York between 1994 and 2011, returning to Brazil for a few years before returning to Europe in 2022. His work refers to the LGBTQ+ world with a romantic and political accent. Part of his work consists of portraits of friends, lovers and fantasies. He curated exhibitions at Centro Cultural Casa da Luz in São Paulo from 2017 to 2022. In 2024, he was in residence at Ateliers Richelieu, a project supported by the Fab. in collaboration with Agence Forest.
