C’est peut-être un peu plus qu’une histoire (d’amour) is the first monographic work devoted to Vincent Voillat. Published by Galerie Éric Mouchet, with the support of the Centre national des arts plastiques, this book brings together the texts and works produced by the artist from 2013 onwards.
Bilingual and divided into six chapters, it brings together at its heart the correspondence of a ‘lithic community’ formed by Vincent Voillat and made up of authors, philosophers, theorists, curators and artists.
Vincent Voillat lives and works in Ivry-sur-Seine. He is represented by Galerie Éric Mouchet and teaches sculpture at the École supérieure d’art et de design TALM-Tours. The artist studies the relationship between landscape and its perception, and explores the relationships between a territory (real or virtual), the places that cross it, its inhabitants and their memories. His approach is based on sampling (geological extractions of rocks, studies of strata and vegetation, etc.) and borrows the materials for his works from popular culture.
Mindful of the interventions made in the landscape, Vincent Voillat detects the trace of bodies and reveals their imprint, persistence and impressions on the history and reminiscences of a place. Through association, juxtaposition and reinterpretation, the artist reinvents a conceptual territory in which narratives and performance produce the links that unite these forms. Since 2005, he has been working with the Collectif MU and is a member of the Institut d’Esthétique set up by Haily Grenet and Émile Degorce-Dumas in 2017.
