Launch | The Mushroom War by Nikita Kravtsov (Filo Loco Serious Publishing)
The Mushroom War is a fairy tale, inspired by the Ukrainian graphic designer Heorhii Narbut. Based on the eponymous folk tale, a popular classic of Slavic cultures and the subject of a 1909 publication, writer Kurkov and artist Nikita Kravtsov reinvent the tale with paintings that illustrate Russia’s war against Ukraine. Kravtsov’s images created with pencil and painted in vivid colors go far beyond a simple comic book. The dramatic subject matter illustrates Russia’s massive assault on Ukraine and Ukrainian culture. Kravtsov reacts to the unjustified war and the destruction inflicted on his homeland with his inimitable style.
Andrei Kurkov has lived in Kiev since childhood and graduated from the State Institute of Foreign Language Pedagogy of Foreign Languages in 1983.
He claims to be able to speak seven foreign languages.
He has worked in various jobs as an editor, prison guard (in Odessa, where he wrote his first stories) and cameraman.
He is the president of PEN Ukraine from 2018 to 2022. Since 1988, Kurkov has been a member of the London PEN club.
He has written about 30 film and documentary scripts (Wikipedia).
Nikita Kravtsov is a Ukrainian artist born in Yalta in 1988. He graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture of Kiev in 2010, he now lives and works in Paris. Since 2015, he collaborates with his partner Camille Sagnes under the name TheTooth&TheRoot. The duo has conceived numerous
exhibitions in France and abroad; their videos, installations, paintings and embroideries constantly
to underline the fateful nonsense towards which our society seems to engage. Very active since the
the beginning of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Nikita Kravtsov regularly intervenes in the street to raise public opinion (frescoes, stencils, wild posting …).
