Why are you so angry? : a creative exploration by pupils at Romain Rolland secondary school

Opening and launching of the fanzine on Saturday, 17 January 2026; 5pm-7pm

This fanzine brings together the work produced by Year 8 pupils at Collège Romain Rolland in Ivry-sur-Seine during a series of workshops led by their art teacher, Paul Maquaire, and artist Tiziano Foucault-Gini, in collaboration with La Fab.

The students produced 180 pieces of work, which unfortunately could not all be included in this fanzine. The selection made by Paul Maquaire and Tiziano Foucault-Gini is less a selection than a reflection of the general feeling and graphic diversity of the productions.

Over the course of five sessions, the pupils explored two contrasting emotions: anger and calm. These themes, chosen in connection with the theme of rebellion present in Tiziano’s work, elicited reactions from them. Sometimes these reactions echoed current events, which are always present in their lives through social media.

To represent each of the two states, they first brought in images selected for their personal resonance, such as screenshots or photographs. Using these sensitive materials and experimenting with techniques such as collage, painting and sewing, they visually translated their feelings.

After discovering the fanzine format with Tiziano Foucault-Gini, the pupils designed the one you now hold in your hands. It is a testament to their creativity and the sincerity with which they expressed their emotions. This project fostered a wonderful sense of camaraderie, thanks to the involvement of the secondary school pupils, the support of their art teacher and the artist’s generous sharing of his expertise. As you leaf through it, you will discover the fruit of this collaboration in creations that are both raw and poetic.
