On the occasion of the bicentenary of photography, celebrated from September 2026 to September 2027, La Fab. presents a major exhibition entitled Love Stories, drawn entirely from the richness of the agnès b. collection.
This artistic proposition unfolds from November 20th, 2026, to March 21st, 2027, at La Fab., offering a vibrant echo of Agnès’s universal message, the celebrated GIVE LOVE, as well as her postage stamp, “amour, amour, je t’aime tant” (“love, love, I love you so much”). Conceived as a journey into the heart of human emotions, the exhibition explores the many facets of emotional bonds, weaving a poetic dialogue between different eras and sensibilities.
The exhibition’s central thread invites visitors to explore several fundamental dimensions of the human experience, beginning with friendship, captured in all its freedom and intimacy by artists such as Nan Goldin, Ryan McGinley, Dash Snow, Chad Moore, Olivia Bee, and Malick Sidibé. The intimate circle then expands to explore family through the tender gaze of Seydou Keïta, Douglas Gordon, Annabelle Hubaut, and Duane Michals, before turning to the intimacy of couples, portrayed in the truth of everyday life by Martin Parr, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Agnès Varda, and Made in Eric. Finally, the freshness of childhood and adolescence, and the first stirrings of emotion, comes to life through images by Helen Levitt, Dmitri Markov, Marion Poussier, and Lola Reboud, complemented by an immersion into the romanticism and mythology of love in cinema.
The exhibition’s strength also lies in bringing together historical masterpieces and contemporary discoveries. Visitors will be able to encounter rare works, ranging from a saltpaper calotype dating from the 1840s to the modernity of Berenice Abbott’s celebrated photograph Jean Cocteau, le chercheur dort (c. 1929). The exhibition highlights the diversity of photographic formats and processes, bringing together period gelatin silver prints by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Raymond Cauchetier’s photographs taken on the set of Breathless (1959), alongside moving anonymous Polaroid snapshots depicting Jonas Mekas and Agnès.
Exceptional bodies of work—including Nan Goldin’s intimate chronicle of Boston in the early 1970s and Seydou Keïta’s sumptuous formal portraits—transform this journey into a vibrant tribute to otherness and to the history of the photographic medium.
