Presentation & signing of the book Reprises, by Alejandro Erbetta

Saturday February 18, 2023 ; 5:00-7:00 p.m.

In Reprises, Argentine artist Alejandro Erbetta considered attempts to reconstruct the history of his family of Italian origin, who emigrated to Argentina in the late 19th century. Through estimated data and stories, the artist resolved to follow his intuitions in order to weave a thread that would allow him to write a probable history. Traveling through the regions of Northern Italy, he tried to find an individual and collective history. But how can we reconstruct our own history when there are silences, elements that escape us or the unknown?

About the artist : Alejandro Erbetta is an artist and researcher in photography. He has a PhD in Aesthetics of Arts, specializing in Photography from the University of Paris 8.

His artistic work has been exhibited in Europe, Asia and Latin America, individually and collectively (MACBA, Argentina; Daegu Photo Festival, South Korea; Festival Circulations, France). In 2019, he received the Support for Contemporary Documentary Photography from the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP), Paris. He completed a post-production residency at CPIF (Centre Photographique Ile-de-France), Pontault-Combault, was a finalist for the HSBC Prize for Photography, and the Prix Images Vevey, Switzerland. He has published three artist’s books (Reprises; Frontières et Mémoire; Aux Frontières de l’oubli), as well as two works of theory and creation on photography: Photographie et (re) construction d’histoires (individuelles et familiales) and Pour une poétique de la mémoire (photographie, littérature, cinéma).
