Launching of the book “Porte Cochère” by Cham Lavant & Daniil Harms

Daniil Harms was a Russian poet of the 1930s.

Harms’ world is unpredictable and disordered, his characters endlessly repeating the same actions or behaving irrationally, linear stories that begin to develop being brutally interrupted by incidents that send them bouncing off in totally unexpected directions.
He was one of the founders of the avant-garde movement of Russian Futurists – writers, musicians and artists – which had a short-lived existence in the 1920s and 1930s – Oberiou (Association
(Association for Real Art), which included the poets Nikolai Zabolotsky, Constantin Vaguinov and Alexander Vvedenska.
Accused of anti-Soviet activities, Daniil Harms was interned in an NKVD prison, where he died on 2 February 1942, aged thirty-six. Considered an enemy of the Stalinist regime, Harms was only able to publish two texts during his lifetime: most of his work was published underground. He was rehabilitated in 1956, but for a long time only his poetry for children was republished in the USSR, from 1962 onwards.
