We should not see, and especially not go to see, in the Mediterranean.
Jewel of Europe and its holidaymakers, this sea is the cradle of our history, the source of our myths, but also the ultimate destination of many migrants, their mass grave. To preserve its clear blue and the tranquility of all, the easiest thing is to erase the tragedies that are tied there, to make the story impossible.
Without witnesses, no drama. Simple and cynical.
Hippolyte went to see, however. Embarked despite all the difficulties on the Ocean Viking, the flagship of SOS Méditerranée, he experienced for months the cold and merciless calculation of States capable of blocking a rescue ship at the dock on the grounds of having saved “too many lives”. Faced with this affirmed will, volunteers and committed actors report on their itinerary, their action, their difficulties.
Two worlds face each other. The Mediterranean is the scene of their confrontation with unequal weapons. And if the “collateral damage” has no face, their souls are murky. Here, they are given back their souls.
