Lucie Khahoutian is an Armenian visual artist born in 1990 in Yerevan. She graduated from Minas Avetysyan school of Fine Arts in 2010 and received a Fine Arts Degree from the American University of Armenia in Yerevan in 2013. Her practice blends collage, photography, textile and installation. Lucie’s body of work aspires to build encounters between western contemporary visual culture and strong traditional Armenian references. Her works approaches a wide range of topics while being very focused on cultural heritage, caucasian identity and memory. Involving both her background and elements of her current life, she weaves a visual tapestry of her surroundings and works on visual narratives in which occident and orient coexist smoothly.
She’s been a finalist for the prizes Résidence BMW (FR), The New Vanguard (USA), Voies Off Arles (FR), Cosmos Award Arles (FR), or Hyères Fashion and Photography Festival (FR), and winner of Emerging Talents (Rome, Italie), Spotlight Award (Dublin, Ireland), Fotografia Europea (Regio Emilia, Italie). Her work is shown in institutions such as Mattaio (IT), Aperture Gallery (NY), Red Hook Labs Galerie (NY), or festivals such as Vogue Photo Milano, Circulation(s), Arles, Mois de La Photographie Los Angeles, or Unseen Amsterdam. Her work is presented in publications including Foam Magazine, Dazed and Confused, El Pais, Internazionale, The British Journal of Photography, I-D, ou Fisheye Magazine.
She is regularly exhibited internationaly and is part of collections of Villa Noailles, Tbilisi Museum for Photography, and Palais Galiera.
