Protecting the most vulnerable : the role of IKAMBERE

Created in 1997, IKAMBERE is a non-profit organization, based in Saint-Denis on the outskirts of Paris, which offers a safe space for women affected by AIDS/HIV.

IKAMBERE works to ensure they have access to healthcare, housing, employment, a healthy diet, their full rights, and activities that promote social cohesion and self-esteem. IKAMBERE’s primary goal is to end women’s solitude and improve their living conditions so that they may take their destiny into their own hands. To do so, the organization offers multidisciplinary, wide-reaching care and support systems, deploying a team of around twenty qualified professionals. Structured as a network, the organization’s processes allow the team to adapt to the specific needs of each woman while helping them out of isolation and exclusion. IKAMBERE also runs mobile prevention and screening programs, reaching out concurrently to at-risk groups and the general public.

fonds de dotation agnès b. has been supporting IKAMBERE since 2016, thus reinforcing its participation in the fight against HIV, which began in the 1990s, one of the darkest periods of the epidemic.
