Saving lives at sea: the role of SOS MEDITERRANEE

In 2018, agnès b. designed a first scarf to sell in stores with profits going to SOS MEDITERRANEE in order to raise awareness on the tragedy taking place in the Mediterranean. The profits from all such ethically branded products are donated in full by agnès b. to the non-profit organization.

In 2019, in the context of a surge in identity politics and with SOS MEDITERRANEE needing to source a new boat for its sea rescues, agnès b. released another scarf to denounce the humanitarian disaster unfolding in the Mediterranean, at the gates of Europe, while non-profit organizations are prevented from conducting their rescue missions.

SOS MEDITERRANEE was founded by European citizens in May 2019 along the historical lines of civil societies created in the 19th century by northern European states to rescue sailors and their passengers who had set sail for America. Since its inception, SOS MEDITERRANEE has come to the aid of persons in distress at sea within operational range, whatever the origins or status of those persons may be: men, women or children, all in danger during the crossing of the Mediterranean.
